UPDATE: We're learning new details about the deadly traffic stop shooting on New Year's Eve 2024 at a Publix off Gunbarrel Road.

Local 3 News obtained new footage and information after filing an Open Records Request through the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The Traffic Stop

Deputy Jonathan Ray, who had been with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office for 13 years, pulled over James Junior Holder, 41 just after midnight for driving a motorcycle with no working headlight.

In an interview with TBI special agents, the deputy said Holder was driving in an "odd" manner, as if he was attempting "to get away" before pulling into and stopping at the Publix parking lot.
