The Dance of Dragons is on.

HBO confirmed Thursday that its hit fantasy series “House of the Dragon” will return when the third season premieres in summer 2026.

Based on parts of Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood , the series is set nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and portrays the events leading up to the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”

The first two seasons served as table setters with the war seemingly set to begin in mass in season 3.

HBO also announced that HOTD has been renewed for season four, which will come in 2028.

The other “Game of Thrones” prequel series, the upcoming “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” was also renewed for second season before its first season debut on Jan. 18.
