CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Hundreds of South Meck students staged a school walkout Thursday morning to protest Border Patrol’s recent operation in Charlotte.
The demonstration took place on Thursday, Nov. 20, at the school’s campus off Park Road.
Students left class, protesting the detentions and deportations happening in many parts of the city amid “Operation Charlotte’s Web.”
Senior Chase Jordan-Fancher, one of the walkout’s organizers, said the protest was sparked by the dramatic drop in attendance on Monday, when more than 30,000 Charlotte-Mecklenburg students stayed home .
“After seeing several other schools start protests, we wanted to do the same,” said Jordan-Fancher. “We really want to make a change here.”
