(KRON) -- Less than a month after federal immigration enforcement agents turned Coast Guard Island in Alameda into a staging area for a called-off "surge," police arrested a van driver who had fake Homeland Security Investigations badges, according to investigators.

"The driver may have been impersonating a federal agent," the Alameda Police Department wrote.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and works closely with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). HSI’s workforce consists of more than 7,100 Special Agents assigned to hundreds of cities, including San Francisco.
