GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —

A detention officer at the Greenville County Detention Center has been accused of having sex with an inmate.

On Thursday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged 34-year-old Jamil Chereze Higginbotham McKenzie with first-degree sexual misconduct with an inmate and second-degree sexual misconduct with an inmate.

According to arrest warrants, the incident happened at the detention center on or about June 6, 2024.

McKenzie was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center. No image of McKenzie is currently available on the detention center website.

The case will be prosecuted by the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
