LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Linn County Winter Overflow Shelter will open Saturday after million-dollar renovations delayed its opening.
The shelter, located at 1017 12th Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids, will open at 4:00 p.m. on November 22. The city is working with the contractor to complete the remaining renovations.
The renovations, funded by more than $1 million in American Rescue Plan money, include a new overhead sprinkler system that will allow the county to use the upper floor, increasing usable square footage for people without permanent housing. The county is also adding new lockers in the front intake area of the building on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids.
The renovations are not the only change to the overflow shelter this year. Anaheim Security will operate the shelter
