BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The artificial intelligence space race is here, according to Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois. After bringing the Meta data center to Richland Parish, Bourgeois said the state is in talks for seven to fifteen additional data centers across the state, raising energy-grid concerns.

“I’ve heard the governor say it 20 times; if I’ve heard him say it once, he’s going to protect the Louisiana consumer first as he balances economic opportunity,” Bourgeois told the Task Force on Energy Infrastructure and Modernization on Nov. 20.

Bourgeois said Louisiana has resources like no other state and the ability to draw in immense investment as the A.I. race heats up. The Meta data center is seen as the state’s guinea pig in this space.
