The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 8:27 p.m. on Thursday for dense fog until Friday at 12:30 a.m. for Elk, Clearfield, Cambria and Somerset counties.
"Clouds are touching the tops of the ridges this evening, making a fog that is reducing visibilities to less than a quarter of a mile. Please use caution if you are driving over the higher terrain. Be prepared for changes in visibility over a short distance. The fog may also settle down into the valleys. The clouds and fog won't dissipate overnight, and will only slowly improve on Friday morning," according to the weather service.
