SALT LAKE CITY — With all the talk in recent months about concern for the Great Salt Lake , where do lake levels stand today heading into winter?

On Thursday, the Great Salt Lake commissioner provided an update, saying lake levels aren’t the worst we’ve had, but they still need to be higher.

As of Thursday morning, the south arm of the Great Salt Lake was 4,193.3 feet above sea level, and the north arm is 4,190.8 feet. That’s roughly about a foot different each way from where it was over the summer.

The rain in October has helped. In fact, the south arm is up two-tenths of a foot since the low marks last month. That’s an earlier turnaround than lake experts typically see.
