Howell Township — Public outcry over a proposed data center in this rural southeast Michigan community was expected to be so great, trustees looked for a bigger room for Thursday's meeting, where they voted for a six-month hold on applications for the facilities.
They needed the space. Hundreds packed Howell High School's auditorium, chosen for the meeting instead of the room in Township Hall for what turned into a heated public takedown of the planned center and a call for any trustees in support of data centers to resign.
