SLIDELL, La. — Nearly a year after the New Year’s Day terror attack on Bourbon Street, families are still living with the loss of the 14 lives taken that night. On Thursday, dozens of officers and first responders were recognized for their bravery and quick action during the Jan. 1, 2025 tragedy — when investigators say a terrorist drove a truck into crowds along the packed French Quarter street.
One of the victims was 25-year-old Matthew Tenedorio. His mother, Cathy, says the ceremony brought back the emotions of a year filled with grief, reflection, and unexpected moments of comfort.
‘It’s been everything in between’
At her Slidell home, Cathy keeps photos, artwork, and gifts sent from people who have learned Matthew’s story over the past year. She says the collection brings her joy —
