DANE COUNTY WKOW) -- The Dane County Board of Supervisors hosted a land acknowledgment and art dedication Thursday.

The event honored the past, present and future of Indigenous peoples in Wisconsin, especially the ancestral homelands of the Ho-Chunk, Sauk and Kickapoo nations.

"Equally important is for land acknowledgments to be a vehicle by which to remember the historical truths about the loss of life, displacement and oppression of Indigenous people," Dane County Board Chair Patrick Miles said.

The board also unveiled artwork celebrating Indigenous heritage and aimed at preserving culture.

The pieces include a portrait from the "Unrelenting Spirits" series and a work titled "No More Stolen Sisters" from an international wood sculpture festival.
