The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Punjab government to take a decision within one week on the parole plea of Khalistan supporter and MP Amritpal Singh.
The Khadoor Sahib MP has sought parole to attend the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. He filed a petition in the High Court after the Supreme Court asked him to approach the lower court first. At present, Amritpal is lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA).
A division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Berry issued the directive during the hearing. The bench questioned senior advocate R.S. Bains, who appeared for Amritpal, asking: “What topic will Amritpal speak on in Parliament, or will he remain a mute spectator
