A man is seriously ill with a virus previously only detected in animals and never before seen in humans.
The chap was rushed to hospital earlier this month, suffering from high fever, confusion and breathing difficulties, later confirmed as H5N5.
This is a subtype of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, typically found in ducks, geese and other wild birds.
As of last week, the man remained in hospital, with an ongoing investigation into how he contracted the illness.
