A man who fatally shot the operator of a Brockton drug house in 1992 and later stabbed a fellow prisoner has been granted parole from his life sentence, records show.
The state Parole Board voted 4-2 to grant release to Nathaniel Harbin, 53, to a halfway house within two weeks. Harbin was 20 when he killed Travis Powell, 21, with multiple shotgun blasts on Nov. 22, 1992, according to Monday’s ruling.
Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office said prosecutors opposed Harbin’s parole bid.
“As district attorney, I will always speak up for murder victims like 21-year-old Travis Powell, who no longer have a voice,” said Cruz, a Republican.
