Quick-thinking police officers rescued a rough sleeper from his burning tent after it was torched in a suspected arson.

The officers were on patrol in Manchester city centre just after midnight in the early hours of this morning (Friday, November 21) when they saw a tent 'engulfed in flames' on Corporation Street, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

After going over to investigate, they discovered there was a man inside and 'immediately acted to rescue him.' Thanks to their swift actions, the 53-year-old homeless man 'sustained no visible injuries', the force said.
