The surface water temperatures on the Great Lakes have really cooled in the past few weeks. Now Lakes Erie and Ontario are colder than normal, while Lakes Michigan, Huron and Superior are just slightly warmer than long-term records show for this date.

In early October I wrote about some of the Great Lakes being warmer than ever recorded at that moment .

The rest of October turned out to have air temperatures around two degrees warmer than normal. With this, many of you asked me if we should expect heavier-than-normal lake-effect snow this winter.

But November’s air has turned cooler than average by one to two degrees. It’s not a significant deviation from normal or a big change, but the Great Lakes surface water temperatures have reacted quickly with rapid cooling. Great Lake Current
