MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI - The Muskegon County Commission voted this week to make a one-time allocation to address food insecurity among senior citizens.
The county approved $75,000 for both AgeWell Services and United Way of the Lakeshore senior services from the county’s senior millage fund during its Nov. 18 commission meeting.
At AgeWell, the funds will specifically help address a “waiting list of over 480 seniors and expedite food resource activities for rural and underserved areas” for 2026, according to county records.
AgeWell provides the Meals on Wheels program, senior transportation and various senior activities, among other services.
At United Way, the funds will add to the United Response Fund to “diminish barriers for food access for seniors” for 2026.
