A paramedic who was killed while trying render aid after a car wreck will be honored with a procession and a vigil Thursday evening, Nov. 20.
Mary Jolly, 27, died Nov. 17 , at a Florida hospital from injuries sustained when she was hit by a car two days before.
At the time she was hit, Jolly was attempting to provide medical help to someone who had been in a wreck, Florida State Highway Patrol said.
Capt. Brandon Miller of Gaston Emergency Medical Services said that Jolly started at GEMS in 2021 and served in several roles, eventually becoming a paramedic. She was honored in 2023 as the outstanding paramedic on her shift, Miller said.
Miller said that Jolly wouldn't leave a patient unless she was positive that they were OK.
"That exemplifies everything a paramedic should be," he said.
