PROVIDENCE, R.I. —
A Rhode Island high school student and judiciary intern was detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in what the agency confirmed was a case of mistaken identity.
The student was detained by agents outside of the Licht Judicial Complex on South Main Street in Providence Thursday afternoon.
According to a statement from the Rhode Island Supreme Court, a Superior Court judge had to step in during the incident and insist that the teenager was wrongfully identified as their target.
The statement claimed that the student would have been taken into ICE custody if the judge had not intervened.
