Residents of Big Rapids apartment complex told to shelter in place due to suspicious object

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — A shelter-in-place warning has been issued for residents of Water Tower Apartments in Big Rapids while police investigate a suspicious object in the parking lot.

Around 8:40 a.m. on Friday, the Big Rapids Police and Fire Departments responded to the parking lot of the Water Tower Apartments in the 800 block of Water Tower Road for a suspicious object.

As of 9:45 a.m., units were still on the scene and awaiting a specialty team from the Michigan State Police to inspect the object.

Police said a shelter-in-place warning was issued for the residents of the apartments and others are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
