COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVG) - Ohio lawmakers are sending a series of property tax reforms to the governor’s desk that are projected to provide roughly $2.4 billion in relief to homeowners in the coming years.
The legislature signed off on the proposals Wednesday.
Lawmakers said the plans aim to prevent homeowners from seeing sudden and significant increases in their property tax bills.
“With these votes, we are stopping unvoted spikes, we’re stopping unvoted increases, we’re taking control over the unvoted portion of people’s tax bills,” said State Rep. David Thomas (R-Jefferson).
State Rep. Bill (R-Richfield) said he thinks the legislation is the most substantial property tax reform Ohio has adopted in 105 years.
