I am a notorious worry wart, so the above observation by Erma Bombeck made me pause, but not because Bombeck unfurled a banner with newly discovered wisdom. She did not.
We all know that worrying predominantly just consumes energy — but, sadly, not an abundance of calories — that could be redirected and productive. I paused only to cut and paste the comment to launch today’s column.
If I were to make a New Year’s resolution for 2026, a good one would be don’t worry, be happy, but then I would worry all year about trying not to worry, so I am not going to set that trap. While I was blessed with some solid DNA, I did get the worry gene, and it came from Gene, my dad.
