LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Friday was National Adoption Day at Jefferson County Circuit Court, where about 40 young people were adopted by their foster families.
Two of those finalizing their adoptions this morning were brothers Melvin and Adolpho Diaz.
They were being formally brought into the family by Audrey and Mike Patterson, who still remember the first time they saw their boys.
"They were wearing clothes that were two or three sizes too small, shoes two or three sizes too small, and freezing, no jacket. It was spitting rain and ice," Audrey Patterson said. "We welcomed them in, they were so excited, and Melvin, the oldest one, said, 'Is it OK if I call you mom?'"
According to the state, in Jefferson County, there are currently more than 8,000 children in foster care .
