LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Baptist Health Lexington performed its first surgery using a new robotic-assisted surgery system this month, marking a major milestone in delivering enhanced surgical care to patients.

Dr. Hope Cottrill, a Gynecologic Oncologist at Baptist Health Lexington, became the hospital’s first surgeon to use the new da Vinci 5 robotic surgery system.

“It’s really changed our whole patient care,” Cottrill said.

Enhanced precision and patient outcomes

The system, operated by the surgeon, has multiple narrow arms and mobility similar to that of a human hand. Cottrill said it also magnifies visualization leading to better outcomes and efficiency in the operating room.
