LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Two Fayette County elementary schools have earned one of the nation’s top academic distinctions, even though the federal program that typically recognizes the honorees has abruptly ended.

Maxwell Elementary and Meadowthorpe Elementary were named 2025 National Blue Ribbon Schools, according to a release from Fayette County Public Schools. While the schools will not be honored in Washington, D.C., as is traditionally done, the Kentucky Department of Education plans to celebrate this year’s four qualifying schools during the state board of education meeting on Dec. 4 in Frankfort.
