GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio — Fire officials in Geauga County say an off-duty Hambden Township firefighter and his daughter were injured in a Montville Township house explosion on Friday afternoon.

According to Montville Township Fire Chief Ron Jonovich, crews responded to a house fire on Hart Road at approximately 2:40 p.m. Jonovich said three people were in the home at the time of the explosion: a father and two daughters.

The father, who is also a Hambden Township firefighter, was "severely burned," according to Jonovich. He was taken first to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center before being transported by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center.

One of his daughters also suffered burns and singed hair; she was taken directly to MetroHealth. The other daughter was not hurt.
