COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Cottage Grove police officials said their K9 officer, Sabrina, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 99 after accidentally escaping the police station on Wednesday.

According to the department, efforts to locate Sabrina began immediately after she escaped through an open door. Officers, along with Chief Cory Chase and his family, searched tirelessly on foot and by car. The department expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Sabrina, who was a cherished member of the team and the community.

"We are incredibly heartbroken and devastated by this tragedy," said Chief Chase.
