NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Nashville Zoo announced that its two cougars will be relocating to a new home in Tennessee.

The 14-year-old sibling cougars Kokanee and Rainier will be relocated to Tiger Haven, a nonprofit big cat sanctuary in Kingston, Tennessee, on Monday.

Kokanee and Rainier were brought to the Nashville Zoo in 2012 when they were just five months old. They had been rescued near Shelton, Washington, after their mother was illegally killed, according to the zoo.

As the two big cats have gotten older, the zoo said its main priority has been Kokanee and Rainier’s comfort and mobility. Tiger Haven will be able to meet the needs of the siblings because the nonprofit is a “big cat sanctuary that offers an environment designed specifically for aging felines.”
