SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Many community members in Spokane Valley are criticizing Councilmember Jessica Yaeger for a recent Facebook post.
On Thursday, Councilmember Yaeger allegedly shared a Facebook post on her personal account, replying "yes" to a statement that starts with "I am a proud Islamophobe."
Karen Stromgren, a Spokane Valley resident on her way to pray at the Spokane Islamic Center, addressed the Islamophobic Facebook post made by her elected councilmember.
"It's an assault on a community," Stromgren said. "I was absolutely appalled."
Stromgren has lived in Spokane Valley as a Muslim for 27 years. She takes pride in the diversity of her congregation.
