A death row inmate who brutally raped and killed his former manager has been executed after more than 37 years in prison.
Richard Barry Randolph, 63, was sentenced to death in 1989 after he was convicted of murdering 62-year-old Minnie Ruth McCollum after brutally sexually assaulting her.
Randolph, who was 27-years-old at the time of the horrific crime, had attempted to break into Handy Way Convenience Store in Palatka, Florida, where he had previously worked under Ms McCollum’s supervision.
During the August 1988 attack, Randolph beat, strangled, stabbed and raped Ms McCollum before stealing her car and fleeing the scene.
Three women who watched Randolph leave the shop and saw the interior had been disturbed then called police.
