EVANSTON, Ill. — Colbi Maples' 24 points highlighted a valiant effort for Cleveland State , but it wasn't enough as the Vikings suffered their first loss of the season, 75-68 on the road to Big Ten opponent Northwestern.
Maples led all scorers on the night as CSU (4-1) raced out to a 20-9 first-quarter lead and even tied the game back up with as little as 2:20 left. But a lack of shooting and rebounding were too much to overcome down the stretch as the Wildcats' talent won out in the end.
Izabella Zingaro added 18 points for Cleveland State, but outside of Maples the Vikings shot just 29.5% from the field and 18.8% from 3-point range. CSU also lost the battle on the glass 48-28, with Northwestern gaining a 26-10 advantage in second-chance points.
With the game tied at 68 in the final
