The legacy of an iconic tree illegally felled near Hadrian’s Wall is set to live on in Coventry . A sapling grown from the Sycamore Gap tree is to be planted in the city today, Saturday, November 22 by the Tree Sanctuary.
The Tree Amigos, who set up the sanctuary in 2023, were one of 500 applicants who placed a bid to host one of the 49 saplings which the National Trust carefully nurtured from seeds and material from the felled tree.
The tree was infamously cut down overnight in September 2023, prompting a national outcry and police investigation. The iconic tree stood in a dip in Hadrian’s Wall and featured in the 1991 Kevin Costner film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
The very first sapling from the felled tree was gifted to the King last summer. But Coventry will be one of the first
