The fire at the GIDA factory has been brought under control after several attempts by the fire service.
Firefighters initially extinguished the blaze four times, but it kept flaring up for periods ranging from 25 minutes to an hour. The absence of technical staff at the factory delayed efforts to stop the leakage.
Sources said the fire was caused by three leaking valves, which engineers from Delhi and Kerala managed to close by 2 am.
Water spraying continued as precaution
Water continued to be sprayed on the tank and valves until 5 am as a precaution. Most fire tenders have been withdrawn, with two remaining on standby.
