Newcastle International Airport is a travel hub here in the North East, welcoming 1.3million passengers with over 4,200 flights departing in the summer, but drones have the potential to disrupt this. Due to a major 371% increase in drone flights inside Newcastle's Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ), airport staff are working with Northumbria Police to educate people.
Now, most people will be aware that flying a drone in direct proximity to the airport can cause dangerous issues for flights coming in and out of the region, but they may not know about the similar risks that come with flying a drone within the FRZ, or even what that it is and where it stretches to.
