When Karl, Mike and Rubben first came under the guardianship of Stephen Wangui and his wife, Caroline Kimani, in 2022 after months in the foster care system, the three young brothers “wondered how it was going to end up,” Wangui said.
On Friday, they officially got their answer. The trio of brothers — 16, 14 and 12, respectively — were formally adopted by Wangui and Kimani, surrounded by family, friends and welfare advocates at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center in Seattle’s Central District.
“It’s a great blessing,” Wangui said, shortly after the adoption was finalized. “It’s been a great journey to get here.”
