Atlantic City Council last week unanimously approved new rules for motels under 100 rooms, requiring security cameras and other safety measures to curb crime.
In the shadow of Atlantic City’s casinos, its base of small motels and hotels are meant to be more affordable alternatives to its higher-end resorts.
For too long, however, officials argue many have been under-scrutinized—resulting in quality-of-life issues in a city that’s spent years trying to restore its image.
That’s why city officials are getting hands-on.
The council’s vote introduced stricter oversight for smaller motels, adding safety rules such as mandatory security cameras to help curb crime.
The ordinance calls for annual inspections at motels with fewer than 100 rooms and gives owners 30 days to fix unsafe conditions
