“What Zohran’s election proved is that this city is ready to turn the page on machine politics,” Usamah Andrabi, spokesman for Justice Democrats, said.

The Justice Democrats were born out of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign. Their first foray into New York this campaign season will be challenging Rep. Adriano Espaillat.

“We do see it as an overlooked opportunity for the national progressive movement to take out an entrenched corporate incumbent,” Andrabi said.

2026 is shaping up to be a raucous campaign season for House Democrats in New York.

There will be at least two open seats — District 7 and District 12 — currently held by outgoing Reps.
