Two separate fatal crashes occurred in the Baton Rouge area on Friday, resulting in two deaths and one arrest.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police responded shortly before 1 p.m. to a crash involving a pedestrian on Plank Road and Rolling Acres Drive in Baker.

The pedestrian, a 73-year-old, was walking northbound on Plank Road near the center line of the street.

A 2016 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling in the same direction and struck the pedestrian, who sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Impairment is not suspected, but a routine toxicology test was taken from the driver and the results are pending.

Later Friday, shortly before 8 p.m., troopers responded to a second crash, this time on LA Hwy 42 at Muddy Creek Road in Prairieville.
