The Blue Jays tendered contracts to all four arbitration-eligible players on their 40-man roster prior to Friday’s 5 p.m. ET deadline.
Left-hander Eric Lauer, centre-fielder Daulton Varsho, infielder Ernie Clement and backup catcher Tyler Heineman were retained. Reliever Nick Sandlin, a previous non-tender candidate, was outrighted off the roster earlier this month and has since become a free agent.
Lauer was the only player who might have been at risk on Friday, but even that was a long shot. He is projected to earn $4.4 million (U.S.) through arbitration and while that’s a bargain for a starting pitcher, it’s expensive for a long reliever. His role has yet to be determined.
