EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -Community members gathered downtown on Saturday for the city’s first tree lighting ceremony at Ann Street Plaza.

The event offered Christmas ornaments for attendees’ trees and hot chocolate.

Izzy Cheng, a marketing and advertising intern for the city of East Lansing, said the event brought together people of all ages and backgrounds.

“It’s definitely a very good feeling being able to see all these people, different ages, different experiences, different just everything coming together to support this town that we all love so much,” Cheng said. “I saw college students. I saw kids having fun today. It was just really inspirational.”

The city of East Lansing hopes to make this an annual event.
