WASHINGTON — Powerball's jackpot rose to $629 million after there were no winners of Wednesday's $593 million jackpot, inching closer to cracking the top 10 of the lottery game's largest jackpots ever.
The grand prize has steadily increased since the last grand prize winners in September, who split the second-largest Powerball jackpot in history earlier this year. On Sept. 6, two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas matched all six numbers to claim a staggering $1.8 billion prize, marking one of the largest lottery wins in U.S. history.
Powerball's rising jackpot comes after a long winless run for the competing lottery game Mega Millions finally came to an end when a ticket worth nearly a billion dollars was sold in Newnan, Georgia.
