PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - In Peoria, conversations about crime and community safety often circle around one painful truth: young Black men are facing the highest risks and the least support.
Saturday, community leaders gathered at the Peoria Public Library to confront what they call a growing crisis. It’s a crisis rooted in identity, purpose, and a culture that increasingly labels masculinity as toxic.
Leaders who spoke included educators, city officials, a bishop and youth advocates. Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria was there in support.
The event focused heavily on solutions, from mentorship programs and fatherhood initiatives to faith-based support, after-school opportunities, and identity-building workshops.
