A minor earthquake centered near Amity just before 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, was felt by people in Salem, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.
The federal agency reported the 3.2 magnitude earthquake occurred about three miles southeast of Amity.
The earthquake was felt in areas of Salem from 11 to 14 miles from the epicenter, according to the federal agency. People in Dallas, Sheridan and Silverton reported to the agency that they felt the quake.
Such a quake can be “felt quite noticeably” by people indoors but they may not attribute the sensation to an earthquake, according to the Geological Survey. Such an earthquake isn’t likely to cause damage, according to the agency.
Self-reporting to the agency by those who felt the quake generally rated the impact as weak.
