A homeless man who kicked a fellow drinker in head after he reacted badly to him rifling through his bag has been given a chance to turn his life around.

Daniel Cook was living on the streets of Norwich after he left the Teesside having been arrested for assaulting a police officer.

The 29-year-old repeatedly pushed the officer after he was reported for driving erratically in a Ford Transit van through Middlesbrough.

Matthew Hopkins, prosecuting, told Teesside Crown Court Cook refused to take a breathalyser test after he was arrested on April 19 this year.

He said the defendant was clearly intoxicated and was unsteady on his feet when police found him.
