A New York contractor who lives in Piscataway is facing charges accusing him of pocketing nearly $60,000 from a homeowner and not performing the work for which he was hired.
Authorities arrested Zohaib Farrukh, 37, on Saturday and charged him with grand larceny and scheme to defraud, according to a statement from the Nassau County, New York Police Department.
A homeowner in Uniondale, on Long Island, told police that they retained North Falcon Construction Company in New York City to perform work in April 2024.
The homeowner issued a check for $59,202.50 to a man who claimed his name was Mohammed Ali. Police say that man was Farrukh, who used an alias.
The check was cashed but the services were not performed, police said.
