NEWPORT, R.I. —
Two Newport, Rhode Island, teenagers were arrested and are facing charges in connection with the assault of a special needs student, the city's police department said.
On Friday, Newport police arrested a 16-year-old Rogers High School student and charged him with two counts of felony assault "on persons with severe impairments," police said.
Another teen, also 16 years old and a Rogers High student, was arrested and charged with assault against the same victim that the first suspect was charged with attacking.
The identities of the victim and both suspects have not been released due to their ages.
The Newport Police Department is investigating. Anyone with information on the assaults is asked to contact Newport police Detective Caitlin Poplawski at 401-845-5772.
