Millions of Americans are expected to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, and officials are warning those hitting the roads, rails and skies to prepare for a lot of company.

AAA projects 1.3 million more travelers will be on the roads than last year, pushing the total number of people traveling by car to at least 73 million.
Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons are expected to be the most congested travel periods before Thanksgiving. The best time to travel Tuesday is before noon and Wednesday before 11 a.m. AAA anticipates minimal traffic impacts Thursday.
Travelers returning home Sunday should expect heavy traffic most of the day. The best time to travel Sunday is before 11 a.m., AAA said.
