At least one person has died and 10 others are injured after a car ploughed into a crowd in Japan .

Around a dozen people were hit in central Tokyo before the driver attempted to flee the scene on foot. An elderly pedestrian, said to be in his 80s, was walking in the street at the time of the crash and is believed to have died from the impact. A woman in her 20s was also found seriously injured and unconscious before she was rushed to the hospital , where she remains. The crash happened at around 12.30pm on Monday in the city's Adachi Ward.

Tokyo Police officers managed to chase down the suspect around 500m from the scene and the man has since been arrested.
