A man waving a knife at passing drivers left an officer injured during a disturbance on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2:20 p.m., Nassau County police announced on Monday, Nov. 24.
Officers were called to Old Country Road and Albany Avenue in East Garden City after reports that Kenneth Edwards, 33, of Roosevelt, was impeding traffic and brandishing a black knife at motorists, according to the release.
Edwards was found nearby, but police said he became violent and combative when they attempted to take him into custody, resulting in an officer being injured during the arrest. The officer was taken to a local hospital. Edwards was also transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Edwards is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Menacing 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, and Resisting Arrest. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 24 at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
